So while you may become familiar with the interface, the gain will be negligible. You can still use the eval version and get the full feature set for like 60 days or so. I tried to tag you guys but the text editor in Spiceworks is misbehaving for some reason.
Ftbug That's a good idea though I'll only have the one box to play with initially. I could up the RAM but I like the idea of separate hardware to mess around with. BBigford Thanks I had considered that but sadly my usual PC is short on RAM. Plus I'll be running other VMs as part of my training so it may as well be on top of a virtualisation platform I'm also going to be supporting. I'm very rusty so even some exposure to the UI is better than nothing. DustinB3403 I last used VMware about 8 years ago with ESXi 3.5 or 4.0 and haven't used it since. Ryan5849 I've got a very limited budget which sadly won't stretch to the R7x0 series:( We have an R720 at my current employer which we've loaded with RAM, HDDs and CPUs which is an absolute beast of a box with Hyper-V on it. Thanks for the all the responses, I'll try and address some below. If 6.5 does not work, you can use some older version images like 6.0. You may miss some nice things like moving the clients online, but these things are intuitive. HP ProLiant D元60 G7 Server For your first steps with ESXi, you setup should be OK. You will find a customized image for the HP server, too. I will say it is a 'will probably work but we won't support it' case.:-) You might see some error messages for unsupported hardware, which does not necessarily mean, that it will not run. First thing: For a home server, it should be no big deal, if there is no official support for the hardware. On top of ESXi I'll be installing additional VMs to help myself learn XenApp and NetScaler plus other technologies. What are the general thoughts on running VMware on older hardware not on the compatibility list? Is it a case of ' will probably work but we won't support it', or ' definitely doesn't work, that's why it's not on the list'?

Neither are officially supported for that version of VMware but the R310 does have a custom VMware install for 6.x from Dell. To achieve this I've been looking at a or an (both refurb) to install ESXi 6.x on. They will be providing full training but it's always good to get stuck in beforehand. I come from a Hyper-V background so I want to set up a home server with VMware so I can begin tinkering prior to starting.

Driver Motherboard Phoenix Awardbios V6 00pg. I'm going to be starting a new job in about 4 weeks and the new place primarily uses VMware ESXi 6. It now appears to be working OK, I had to adjust the memory allocated from 384Mb to 512Mb, install VMWare tools and uninstall VMWare converter agent. First I migrated to VMWare Workstation and then from Workstation to ESX.
